One Year Ago Today...

It was one year ago today that this little bundle of joy came into our lives. We had been hoping for him for a long time. He was little Owen. He only cried for a few minutes after he was born. In fact he lay quietly for hours under the lamp as the nurses cleaned him up, combed his hair and took his picture in which his Dad thought he looked like a little old man.

He slept quietly and soundly that night, wrapped in the arms of his Mommy, while Dad snored loudly on the couch that folded into a bed. One would have thought that Dad was the one who gave birth the way he was crashed out on that couch. But little Owen slept through all of the noise. His eyes were bright and full of thought.

But he knew he was safe and loved from the moment he was born. Everyone was there to see him and it seemed they were just as anxious to hold him as Mommy and Dad.

And while they were patient in letting everyone hold him, Mommy and Dad couldn't wait to hug the little guy. In fact once Owen was in his Dad's arms, he knew from then on he would always be his Daddy's little buddy.

He was still a little bundle of joy once he was brought home as well. He already had his own room, toys and games. He also found out he had a dog named Lily, too!

He was a handful at first, but it didn't take Mommy and Dad too long to get the hang of things. Soon they were taking pictures left and right of their little guy growing up.

Here are some more pictures of Owen's first year:

It doesn't seem that long ago we were holding him for the first time, happy, excited, tired and scared to death all at the same time. We've had a lot of adventures in this first year. There was the Cruise-In on the Fourth of July and we went to Bear Lake twice this summer! We watched football all season long, even caught a few of the Aggie's games, even though they lost. He was a little devil on Halloween and a little gentlemen on Thanksgiving. He celebrated Christmas and rang in the New Year both with aplomb. There was the Super Bowl and then Easter. He helped Dad with his school work, and even met a few of his professors. He is an old pro at Mommy and Dad's work. He's been there so much he could probably run a shift by himself. And through it all he took it all on with a smile.

The year has gone by too fast. From waiting for the umbilical cord to fall off to midnight feedings to a few 3:00 am visits to Emergency Room with lots of poop, puke, drool, slobber and spitting up in between. Over a thousand diaper changes and lots of clothes he is now too big to wear, our little boy is growing up. From reacting to his first little sneeze to now celebrating his first tentative steps on his own a lot of things happened in this first year. We can't help but be excited about the years to come. A lot can be said about Owen, he's cute, he's chubby, he can be naughty sometimes, he is starting to squirm around when you change his diaper. He laughs and giggles and is always ready to give anyone a smile. But the one things we love to say about him is that he is our Little Owen.

Happy Birthday Owen!
We Love You!

Some Owen Videos

We thought we would share some new videos of Owen. Both are two of Owen's favorite games. The one is playing "peek-a-boo" he loves to play this, but suddenly when the camera is on, he gets a little shy and seems more interested in the camera.
The other "game" Owen loves is getting into trouble. One morning Dad and Owen found some turtle toy in his toy chest that "pops" when rolled along the ground. Owen was pushing that thing around all morning long so Dad decided to get some video of it. The magic of the newly discovered toy must have worn off because as soon as Owen spotted the dog dish, it was time for some naughtiness.

Owen loves to play "Peek-a-Boo"

Luckily in this video, Dad was able to stop Owen in time from making another mess of the dog's dish.

Now we're just counting down the days until Owen turns 1. It is in less than a week. This Saturday we'll be having a big party with all the family coming up to wish the little guy a Happy Birthday!

The Easter Bunny Came to Town!

Well, the Easter Bunny sure didn't pass up our house this last weekend. In fact, I think he left half of his stuff with us.

Owen sure did hav a good time though. There were several Easter egg hunts he participated in as well as plenty of candy and toys and a few new out fits.

We started out with brunch at Grampa and Grandma Higham's house and then went to Tooele for dinner with Grampa and Grandma Nash and a big Easter egg hunt in the back yard!
Enough blabbing, we'll just get to the pictures:

Happy Easter everyone!

The Little Helper

Well, Dad finally put his foot down and despite Mom's protestings, we finally got Lily fixed. So while she has been laying around the house recovering, Owen has decided it is now time for him to earn his keep and start helping out a bit.
He has started by helping to take care of Lily. No matter how much we tell him that Lily is fine and doesn't need much taking care of, he just can't help it. He loves his little doggie too much to just leave her alone and let her recover.

He also loves to help out with the laundry. Even if that means he takes everything out and throws it around, whether it is folded or not.

Mom doesn't complain, at least it is some help. At least more help than what Dad contributes!

Owen LOVES the phone, too. He'll take messages, yell at telemarketers, anything you want him to do, SO LONG AS HE GETS TO PLAY WITH THE PHONE!!!! If not, he'll let you know by screaming and carrying on until you let him play with the phone. It doesn't matter if it is Grandma Higham calling or Mommy trying to talk to the stupid IRS person who screwed up Mommy and Dad's tax return. He will scream and protest until he gets on the phone.

Another thing Owen likes to help out with is keeping the floors clean. If Mommy or Dad (well, mostly Dad) misses something on the floor while vacuuming, Owen has no problem picking it up and eating it. He is quite efficient at this as well. Mommy and Dad can hardly keep up.

All things considered, he is the best Little Helper we've ever had and we're lucky to have him. His cute little smile in the mornings when he wakes up makes all of the hassle more than worth it. He is our little boy and we love him!
