Cutting Down the Old Trees

Well, it was finally time to go ahead and do it, we got those three old elm trees in the yard cut down. It wasn't too expensive, relatively speaking and we saved ourselves $1500 by doing the clean up ourselves. It was a daunting task, but two weeks to the day of having them cut down, we had the yard cleaned up. Only a few big stumps were left and we were able to roll them off of the lawn.

Here are the pictures in the various stages of clean-up:

This was taken the day after the trees were cut down.

We're making some progress...

...And we're done!

Owen had a great time helping out. He especially enjoyed having Grampa Nash come and stay with us for a few days to help clear out the wood.

But we had lots of help from Grampa and Grandma Higham and Auntie Collette and cousin Ryan. Not only did Grampa Nash come up for four days, but he and Grandma Nash came up on Sunday night and stayed over on Memorial Day to help as well. If it wasn't for the help of family we'd still be buried underneath the pile of dead wood.

We also had plenty of passers-by stop and ask for wood. All in all about 20 truck loads worth of wood was hauled off. We still have several big stumps and a large stack of wood already cut and stacked next to the house. It was a rough two weeks, but we got it done just in time for our vacation to Mesquite which starts on Thursday!

Thanks for the help, everyone!
